In the hope of getting some more me into this blog, I’ve decided to start a weekly posting of life stuff. This may be things that have happened in my week, blogs I’ve been loving or a cute Korra story.
I started work last Sunday at American Eagle and although I only worked two shifts I definitely think I’m going to love working there. Working in retail seems to be so different in the maritimes than it was in Alberta – the employees don’t hate their lives, for one thing, and the customers are so friendly and chatty. Boy I love the people out here.
We also set up Christmas at work, so the Christmas carols are officially in my head. Needless to say, I don’t think I will need to listen to Christmas music at home to get in the spirit. 😉 We set up our tree at home and it was definitely quite barren from lack of decorations before I found some very inexpensive decorations at Superstore. It’s so cute and little, and a little bit Gryffindor themed. 😉 I think I am going to be making some decorations for the house – would anyone be interested in seeing some DIY Christmas posts?
Wednesday was a really great day for me – I was feeling just amazing, probably in part to running errands for a couple of hours. I got my hair trimmed (it feels so much shorter now) and I followed that up with a tasty tasty hot chocolate from the new coffee shop just down the street. The owner is so lovely – he asked how I found out about the place and I dunno…just really tries to connect with his patrons. I have a feeling I’m going to be spending a lot of time there! I missed having a coffee shop within walking distance like we did in Edmonton. I also sent off my secret santa gift for the Canadian Beauty Bloggers gift exchange which just makes me so happy. I love Christmas!
Though I have to say I am over all of this rain. I enjoy actually having a couple of months of autumn – unlike in Alberta where it’s a week or two of autumn and then SNOW – but I am ready for snow now, if only so it stops raining. Snow may be cold, but at least the wet and the mud will mostly go away.
Yesterday was definitely the best day out of my week – Dylan and I got out of the house early – at least for us – and went to the Seaport Market where we sampled amazing food and I perused local skin care vendors. We had hoped to find Christmas presents, but the samosa I ate more than made up for that disappointment.
But the real reason we were downtown was because we had tickets to see Chris Hadfield speak. I don’t have that many “celebrities” that I look up to, but he is definitely one of them. I am (slowly) reading An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth and let me tell you, it is one of the best books I have ever read. He just has a way of writing (and speaking) that makes it feel like he’s talking just to you. And he is funny! So funny. But most of all he has so much wisdom. He really pushed himself to become an astronaut (obviously…) and the way he talks about his journey to get there has really helped me through some of my what am I doing with my life crisis. I definitely recommend the book. (And his new one, You Are Here is really good too. Beautiful photos of Earth from space with more of his wisdom thrown in.)
And that’s been my week! I will leave you with a photo of Korra in the box fort Dylan made for her – aka her new favourite spot ever. Isn’t she the cutest?
