Orange Face of the Day with Just J

Hi everyone! I’m MizzJ of Just J, a beauty, fashion and lifestyle blog based out of Vancouver. I want to thank Jodi today for featuring me as her CBB guest poster for May. This month’s theme is orange and I was thrilled to work with this theme as I just happened to have an orange eyeshadow that I had yet to use.

Inspired by an orange shadow look that Jayne of Cosmetic Proof had done ages ago, I had hunted down my own orange palette from Shu Uemura. If you’ve never tried Shu eyeshadows before, I highly recommend them. They’re a little hard and have a bit of fallout, but the colors are vibrant and easy to work with. I love this combo of a subtle glittery gold with a neon matte orange.

Orange eyeshadow is WAY out of my comfort zone, but after playing around with it, I might be warming up to it! Orange just looks so unique and when blended with metallic colors, it makes a really fun summer look.

For this look, I decided to go hard and do orange everything! The end result I think looks really cheerful and warms up my face. I really layered on the colors for the photos here, but I might wear this out again, albeit with a lighter hand!

Here’s how to get this look:

First, start off with a flawless base. Here I’m using Youngblood Mineral Rice Setting Powder in Light layered on top with a healthy dusting of Youngblood Natural Mineral Foundation in Ivory.

Next, I took a fluffy shadow brush and took the gold shade from my Shu Uemura palette and applied it as a shimmery base all over the lid and up to my brow bone. Then, using the same brush, I applied the bright orange shade from lash line to just above my crease, blending out with a fanning motion. At this point I looked a little scary with neon orange eyes, so using the bronze shade from the Paul & Joe Eye Color Trio in Night Cafe, I used a blending brush to soften the intensity of the orange and blend it all together.

To finish off the eyes, I went with a strong, extended line of jet black with my Make Up Forever Graphic liner and topped it with two coats of Lancome Definicils waterproof mascara.

Then I sculpted out my cheekbones with the orange-pink blush shade of the Tarte Pin-Up Girl Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blush palette. Normally I just barely tap my blush brush into the pans, but this time, I generally swirled my blush brush to get a bright streak of grapefruit color across my face (this look isn’t for the faint of heart!).

Last, but not least, are the lips. I went through a huge orange lipstick phase a couple years ago, so I had the perfect color for this look. One swipe of Revlon’s Super Lustrous lipstick in Siren was the perfect finishing touch. This lipstick is amazing – so creamy, beautifully pigmented, and of course it’s a pure, bright orange.

And that’s it! This look is all about bold colors and strong lines, but surprisingly takes few steps to do. Why not try a little orange yourself?

Let me know what you think of this look in the comments!
