I am getting back into lipstick in a big way. I went through a period where I was lucky if I wore a tinted lip balm, let along a lipstick other than a nude, but now that we’ve got some fun colours coming out I am so into it. I mean, I’ve wanted to try the NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks since I first saw them online, but when I saw there was a grey and a pastel purple? Needed them.
The NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks come in a pretty standard plastic tube with a spongey applicator that is the perfect mix of flexible and stiff. It can move with the contour of your lips but doesn’t flop all over the place so you get lipstick on your chin. Unless you mean to – in that case, it’s good for that too! 😉
These are a true cream lipstick – they aren’t budge-proof, they aren’t totally matte, but they are creamy. I really like the formula, actually. They don’t dry out my lips like many of the matte liquid lipsticks on the market, but they last really well on me – I could easily get through the day with just a small touch up after eating. These do touch up well, by the way – they don’t end up goopy and flakey if you need another layer. (Which, I’ll be honest, you might if you choose Sway) I get a little bit of transfer on my coffee cup or on the back of my hand if I test them, but it’s not a huge ring like a traditional lipsticks.
I really really like this formula – it’s the perfect mix of long-wearing and moisturizing for me.
NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Stone Fox
Stone Fox was the original shade that drew me to the Liquid Suede line. I mean…an affordable dark grey lipstick? Oh hell yes. I absolutely LOVE this lipstick – it’s incredible pigmented, though it does take a bit of precision to get it on your lips neatly. These lippies would definitely benefit from a lip liner for a super crisp edge.
One thing to note is that on me Stone Fox pulls a blueish green grey rather than a straight up neutral. I’ve seen a lot of swatches where it’s a totally neutral grey, but I just don’t get that. In the photo above it looks like a super deep teal and that’s true to how it looks on my skin tone.
NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Sway
I’m not going to lie…this purchase was totally blogger influenced. I can’t remember who influenced it right now, but I know that they rocked this lipstick back in early summer, so I had to pick it up. Sway is the perfect pastel purple lipstick and honestly, it looks amazing with my light skin tone. I don’t doubt that it looks amazing on other skin tones too! But on us fair gals? Ohhhhh yeahhhh.
Sway is a bit less pigmented than Stone Fox – I need to do a bit more work to get full opacity, and you can still see my lip colour peeking through in the photo above. I would absolutely recommend a lip liner to get an easier, more opaque application…but who has a pastel purple lip liner lying around? I don’t, that’s for sure. Instead I just layer it up gradually. It’s not perfect, but it still makes my heart sing, and that’s what makeup is all about, isn’t it?
These are definitely not conventional lip colours, so I definitely understand if you’re giving me a bit of a funny look as you read this. But don’t worry – NYX has taken care of everyone – there are a whole lot of more natural looking shades in the Liquid Suede line too! I’m just hoping they come out with a deep green and a navy so that I can snatch those up too!
