May Favourites

June 1, 2014

This past month has been a crazy one – I actually can’t believe that it’s already June! Which means my wedding is just a few days away!! I’ve been trying to think back to what I’ve been reaching for a lot this month, but it’s been changing so much that it’s been really tough to narrow down what my absolute favourites are. I’ve decided to showcase what my absolute favourites have been in the past few weeks, in addition to some tried and true products. (Plus a couple of tv shows.)

The Body Shop Tea Tree Cool & Creamy Wash
I did a review of this cleanser earlier in the month and it’s still delighting me, so I just had to include it. Check out the full review here!

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate
Oh man, you guys. This stuff is amazing. I didn’t realize how dehydrated my skin actually was until I started using this at night and then suddenly bam – it’s not as oily, I don’t get as many breakouts, it’s softer and healthier looking…I just can not sing my praises for this product enough. So freaking good.

Revlon Photoready Color Correcting Primer
This is my absolute favourite primer right now, even over cult favourites like Benefit’s The POREfessional. I find it really does help to even out my skin tone even before I use foundation. It also really helps to brighten up my skin, which I wasn’t expecting and is a really great surprise!

MAC Mineralize Skinfinish – “Light”
Before this, I hadn’t bought anything except for lipstick from MAC, and this has me hooked. The powder is not only fantastic at keeping the shine down on my face and at setting my makeup, but I absolutely adore the packaging. It’s sleek, like all MAC packaging, but I really love the magnets in the lid to keep it closed. I know that it isn’t specific to MAC, but there’s just something fun about it, rather than the snap-shut functions on most other makeup packaging.

Maybelline New York Instant Age Rewind Concealer Dark Circle Eraser
This product has been popping up all over the beauty world recently, and I fell in love with it after Essie Button mentioned it in a video. It covers up my awful dark circles like no other concealer has, and I absolutely love the twist up sponge dispenser.

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush – “Blushing Bride”
This is one of my newest purchases, but it has quickly risen to the top ranks in my makeup collection. I’ve been looking for a natural, long wearing blush to wear on my wedding day and this one has really taken the cake. It lasts all day and is very buildable, so it can be used for a natural flush or something more dramatic. I also love the packaging: it’s simple yet chic and the pattern that’s stamped into the blusher is just so cute.

MAC lipstick – “Lustering”
I bought this just over a week ago, but I’ve worn it just about every day since. It’s a beautiful red-toned pink, which looks fantastic with my skin tone and is so great for a girl who owns solely red lipsticks. I’ve been wanting to branch into pinks and this is the perfect summery transition shade.

Maybelline New York The Falsies Big Lashes – Waterproof
This was on sale at Shoppers Drug Mart when I went in looking for a waterproof mascara for the wedding, so I decided to check it out. I am shocked with how much I absolutely love it. It has two brushes – one for the top lashes and one for the bottom lashes and t my eyelashes have never looked better. My lashes look fuller and longer and my eyes look huge when I wear this mascara.

“The West Wing”
I remember my dad watching “The West Wing” while it aired – or more specifically, I remember the theme song playing through our living room. I never watched it myself and it wasn’t until recently that it caught my attention. I started watching it while I was making paper flowers for bouquets and other various decor for the wedding and I was obsessed. I had to pull my obsession back a bit when my fiance became just as hooked as I was and we started to watch it together. It is just fantastic television and it’s almost agony for me to wait for my fiance to watch it. 😉

“Damages”
“Damages” is another show that I discovered while crafting. It’s actually because my fiance got hooked on “The West Wing” that I started watching “Damages” and the first season was impeccable. It’s gone a bit downhill in my opinion from there, but I still can’t help but marathon the episodes once I sit down to watch. It makes for a very unproductive day, though!

For those of you who haven’t watched “Damages”, it’s about a prestigious law firm in New York that gets into some shady business. The story itself isn’t ground breaking, but it keeps you on the edge of your seat with flashbacks and flashforwards. I got incredibly invested in the characters very fast.

And that’s it! What were some of your favourites this month?
