Maison Jacynthe Makeup Review + Look

Maison Jacynthe Makeup Look

There is nothing quite so exciting for me as trying out a new Canadian cosmetics brand – especially if it’s colour cosmetics. I love skincare to bits, but there is something so much more fun about playing with colour! Today’s new brand is Maison Jacynthe, a French Canadian brand by Jacynthe René, an actress and producer from Quebec.

Maison Jacynthe is a branch off of Jacynthe’s online lifestyle magazine and is both cruelty-free and 100% natural. Talk about a feel-good brand!

I have three products to share from the Maison Jacynthe makeup line today: a Blush in Romeo, the Terracotta powder in Highlight and the Concealer in Light.

Maison Jacynthe’s packaging is luxe yet simple. The powder products all come as refills with an optional compact to purchase separately. I know a lot of people prefer makeup to come with their own packaging, but I love this! I’d rather have reusable packaging (either in Maison Jacynthe’s compact form or a refillable palette like the Z-Palette) than having an excess of garbage hitting the landfills.

The compacts are designed similarly to the concealer (below), with a wooden base and brushed metal lid. I love this aesthetic and hope it catches on – it’s much more me than white everything! 😉

But onto the actual products…

Maison Jacynthe Blush in Romeo

This natural blush is so stunning. I don’t usually go for red-toned blushes as it brings out the redness in my cheeks, but I love this one! It gives a just-in-from-the-cold look to the cheeks and while I try to avoid the cold at all costs, I love the look of it.

When Maison Jacynthe says that their blushes are long wearing, they aren’t kidding. Blushes usually disappear on me within a few hours, but Romeo lasts all day.The blush is formulated with coffee extracts, corn, macademia and apricot oils to improve the skin’s texture while it’s worn.

It’s best to use a light hand when applying as this sucker is pigmented and I ended up with clown cheeks the first few times I applied it. It is a matte blush, though not powdery feeling on the cheeks.

Maison Jacynthe Terracotta 02 (Highlight)

Like the blush, this Terracotta powder is smooth, pigmented and silky in texture. I chose the lightest shade of the two Terracotta powders, hoping that I’d be able to use it as a highlight, though it’s far to dark for me for that. It’s a good shade for bronzer on me, though it’s shimmery (not glittery) so I wouldn’t use it to contour.

This powder is 100% organic and is formulated coffee extracts, babassu and shea-tree butters, apricot and avocado oils to improve the skin’s texture. A little goes a really long way with this powder, like the blush, so a light hand is a must.

Despite my disappointment that the Terracotta 02 doesn’t work for me as a highlight, I do like it as a bronzer! I don’t have many bronzers with shimmer in them, so this will be amazing in the summer for an all over glow.

Maison Jacynthe Concealer in 01

I saved the best for last. I have been struggling to find the perfect all-in-one concealer for…well, since I started using makeup. I’ve tried stick concealers in the past and they’ve always been to dry to blend well or the colour match isn’t good. Well, I can say I’ve found a holy grail. The Maison Jacynthe Concealer in 01 is the perfect shade match for my pale skin and is hydrating enough that I can use it on my under eyes, yet not so hydrating that it slips all over my face. Oh, and did I mention that it covers up spots like nothing I’ve ever used? Yeah, perfect.

This concealer has become my new every day must-have. If I don’t use it I immediately notice and never like my makeup as much as when I do use it. It works well under powder foundation, over liquid foundation or on its own.

I’ve created my new favourite fall look using these three products. It’s based completely on the red tones in Romeo – can you tell how much I love rusty shades?
