Every Day Makeup Routine

November 26, 2014

I truly love makeup. I mean, obviously, or I wouldn’t write this blog. I love wearing dark, vampy lips or bold reds…but on a day-to-day basis I just can’t be bothered. Touch ups and I really don’t get along – I can’t even be bothered to reapply concealer to heinous zits, let alone anything else. So when I’m out and about – especially when I’m at work – I need a look that is totally fuss-free and easy to maintain.

And so my every day makeup routine was born. Something that I can quickly thrown on in the morning without having to touch up while I’m running around.

Every Day Makeup Routine

Base

My base very rarely changes on the day to day, usually just with intensity of concealer use. 😉 I have a grand total of five base products but I have really only been touching one lately – MAC Skinfinish in Light. It’s incredibly lightweight, yet evens my skin tone out nicely without leaving a chalky residue. AKA it’s perfect for when you’re half awake and need to swipe something on quickly.

When I use powder foundation I use all of my cream products first. So out come the primers (Benefit’s That Gal and NARS’ Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base) and the concealer. Bobbi Brown’s Creamy Concealer Kit in Cool Sand is the perfect tonic for dark under eye circles and even works decently on blemishes if you’re like me and don’t want to use a million different concealers on different bits of your face. To brighten up my under-eye area and cancel out any redness (usually around my nose) I swipe on some NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla (though I think I might need to pick up Chantilly for my winter complexion) and blend it with Real Technique’s Buffing Brush. I usually play around with my hair a bit after the concealer is on, trying to get it to look somewhat normal, before swiping on MAC’s Skinfinish with e.l.f.’s Kubuki Brush.

Cheeks

My cheeks are unfortunately rarely celebrated in my makeup – I can sometimes hardly manage to dot on some blush from Tarte’s Pin Up Girl Blush Palette with a stippling brush, let alone add any bronzer or highlighter to the mix. If I do bronze, I use The Body Shop’s Honey Bronzer in 01 – but I can rarely manage to use blush on top of the bronzer. It just doesn’t do that much for me and, well…contouring and bronzing still scares me a bit.

Eyes

I can’t be fussed to do complicated eye looks on a day to day basis, so I usually just swipe on a layer of Maybelline’s Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze followed by a touch of NYX’s Jumbo Pencil in Milk in the inner corner of my eye and on the brow bone and maybe a thin line of eyeliner from Rimmel’s Scandaleyes Eyeliner Pencil in Brown, depending on my laziness factor. I add a light layer of Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara, which gives a super natural finish and then move onto my brows. I keep it simple for my brows – I don’t want anything too heavy most days, so I use Anastasia’s Brow Powder Duo in Soft Brunette and the gel from Rimmel’s Brow Fantasy Duo in Dark Brown to fill  in any sparse areas and set my brows.

Lips

I can hardly believe it but when I’m working I never wear lipstick. I always take Wet n Wild’s Balm Stain in Rico Mauve with me, but I never ever use it. I keep a tube of Epic Blend’s More Moisture Lip Balm in my jeans pocket (my current favourite is the grape flavour) and call it a day.

I just can’t get over how much I enjoy this look. It’s simple but still gives me the definition that I want in a beautiful hassle-free manor. What does your go-to makeup routine include?

  1. Everyone has that NYX Milk pencil! I feel like I should too now haha. Is it suitable for more yellow-toned skin? I’m a bit worried that it’s a bit too true a white for me.
