CBB Guest Post: Best Blushes of 2014 with Jenn

December 31, 2014

Hi, friends! I am so thrilled to announce that I have another Canadian Beauty Blogger guest posting for me today! Jenn is a recent (but dear) friend and I’m excited to share a post she wrote for me about the best blushes of 2014! I’m still a bit intimidated by blush so this is such a lovely post for me to feature here! Yay!

Hi, everyone! It’s Jen from Vibrant Beauty Blog. So happy to be posting on Up the Rollercoaster today! I’m writing as part of a December series organized by the Canadian Beauty Bloggers group, a fantastic network of gals from coast to coast who gush about all things shiny and pretty. Honoured to be a part of it!

The theme of the series is Favourites of 2014. I thought about what selection I’d share for this post and quickly realized that it was my blush collection that truly blossomed this year (literally in some cases, as I have a flower-shaped cheek colour!). In that vein, I thought I’d share with you my most reached-for blushes of 2014. Some were new releases this year, while others were oldies that I was simply lucky to stumble across over the past 12 months. In either case, I hope I inspire you to check some of them out, as they’re all completely fabulous!

Best Blushes of 2014

Illamasqua Powder Blush in Tremble

The only upside of seeing Illamasqua leave Canadian shelves this years was that I was able to grab several products from the brand at a great discount! Tremble was the favourite blush of that bunch. It’s a matte, but seriously perky coral pink. Instantly makes me look awake!

MAC Satin Blush in Modern Mandarin

I’m always a sucker for an orange blush, and this might be the prettiest one I own! It’s a lovely warm peachy orange with an ultra flattering satin sheen. This is a perfect shade for summertime, though I wear it year-round 🙂 You can see it as part of a makeup look, here!

Clinique Cheek Pop in Ginger Pop

The Clinique Cheek Pops rivalled the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blushes (see below) for my favourite blush release of the year. They offer creamy richness in a powder formula, wonderfully blendable, wearable colour, and the cutest floral design you could imagine! Ginger Pop is a tawny peachy coral that adds instant warmth to my complexion. You can read a review of it, here

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Radiant Magenta

Everything about these blushes is gorgeous. The flattering, ethereal finish, the softness and blendability, and that stunning two-toned marble design! Radiant Magenta is a warm coral pink that adds a perfect pinch of colour without being over the top. You can see it featured, here!

Best Blushes of 2014

Becca Beach Tint Shimmer Souffle in Raspberry/Opal

This one definitely wins the most unique texture award. It’s a dense, whipped, mousse-like blush that feels extremely lightweight on the skin while imparting a beautiful glow. Raspberry/Opal is a cool berry with a golden shimmer that creates a perfect Winter flush! You can see my review of it, here!

The Balm Frat Boy

This blush has received tons of love in the blogosphere lately, but I like to think I was ahead of the curve. I swatched this in-store early this year and immediately fell smitten. It’s a gorgeous coral peachy tone that instantly livens the face, while the soft, matte texture makes it incredibly wearable. And who doesn’t love some retro-inspired packaging!? You can see me wearing Frat Boy here!

NARS Matte Multiple in Siam

Most vibrant blush of the year award goes to this beauty. I was instantly drawn to this new range from NARS, as a versatile matte cream blush seemed incredibly appealing. I couldn’t help but opt for Siam, a fiery orange red. It can certainly be built up for some drama, but can also be worn as a light wash for a sheer, warm glow. You can see my review of it, here!

Flower Beauty Lip & Cheek Chubby in Rosie Posie

This is by far my favourite budget blush of the year! Drew Barrymore created some magic with these chubby lip and cheek pencils, which have the most lovely creamy, yet long-wearing formula. Rosie Posie is a universally flattering mauve-toned pink that makes cheeks look naturally flushed.  You can see me sporting it, here!

Here are swatches of all 8 blushes on my inner arm (MAC NC15 skin tone):

Best Blushes of 2014
(L-R): Illamasqua Tremble, MAC Modern Mandarin, Clinique Ginger Pop, Hourglass Radiant Magenta, Becca Raspberry/Opal, the Balm Frat Boy, NARS Siam, Flower Rosie Posie

So there you have it, the cream of the crop of cream and powder blushes for 2014! As you can see, I’m a sucker for a variety of shades, but primarily those that give a vibrant pop of colour to my fair skin. I’m all about embracing bright colour and convincing even the most timid among you that those of all skin tones can sport a bold blush. Your cheeks will thank you for it!
